Data Science and Engineering Track
In Fall 2013, TU Berlin’s Faculty IV: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science formally approved a new track, which enables students pursing a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Informatics, or Information Systems Management to specialise and develop expertise in data analytics. In order to fulfill the requirements of this specialisation area, students from these aforementioned programmes will need to select from an approved set of courses in three core competencies, namely,
(1) scalable data analytics,
(2) scalable data management, and
(3) an application area.
This document [1]describes these skill areas, provides the most up-to-date (i.e., as of October 14, 2020) study schedule for each Master’s Programme, and offers general advice (e.g., on future job prospects in this field and comments on mentorship). Graduates who complete the prescribed courses will be awarded both a Master’s Degree and a Data Science and Engineering Certificate issued by Faculty IV.
The Data Science and Engineering (DSE) Track is NOT a full Master’s programme. Students must first enroll in a TU Berlin Master’s Programme, such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems Management and then declare interest in pursuing the DSE specialization, simply by adding themselves to the ISIS webpage: https://isis.tu-berlin.de/course/view.php?id=16781 [2].
Questions or comments concerning this track should be directed to lehre@dima.tu-berlin.de [3].
